Fun in the Pine Barrens

After going through the Pine Barrens during the 48Hrs Charity Drive Brent and I decided to revisit the area in a more capable truck to see how bad the trails would get.  This worked out nicely because John had been wanting see how well his Colorado would do off the roads.  Over all we were quite happy with the Colorado but quite glad John had installed the aftermarket skid-plates.  After seeing some of the water hazards we wished we had taken another truck with us because we did not want to risk getting stuck without another truck to quickly pull us out of the water.  We did have numerous tools which would have gotten us unstuck but they would have required a fair amount of time to use.

We ended up traveling about 40miles of trails in the Pine Barrens before we had to head home.  The map below shows the GPS tracking of the trails we did.  You can click on certain areas of the map to see the tracked-trail in more detail.

Below are some pictures we took through out the day.  Click on any picture to enlarge.

This was at the first dead-end of the day.  There were a few others however this was the only one which was more then just a large puddle of water as a dead-end.

As we quickly learned you needed to watch ahead as much as possible because you never knew when a nice large water hazard would come up like this one.  Although we go through the first two puddles we decided not to attempt this one.

Just some random pictures:

Yet another water hazard; this one there was a trail which took us around it.

Some pictures of some of the trails we were going through.

Here are a few other cars which we saw along the trails.

Below are a few areas which Brent and I recognized from the 48Hrs drive.  Strange how before these perticular points we did not think we were on the same trail.

Here we are at the exiting the trails for the day.  The only damage to the truck was the plastic piece of the bumper.  We all agreed must have been from crossing a water hazard which was covered in ice.  When we crossed the ice must have broke/thrown up and hit the bumper.  Other then that the only thing that happened to the truck were some minor scratches (which should wax/buff out easily) due to the narrow trails that we ended up taking.
